Girlfriend Getaways
I have a very close friend who is in the hospital right now. I love this person, she is my close friend and I would do ANYTHING for her. I have spent most of this week going back and forth to the hospital, sitting, praying and watching her want so badly to get well. On my way into the hospital, I stopped and bought some magazines for the room so when others came they could enjoy them and when she was ready she would have something to read.
I promised her that when this is over that we would take a trip "almost" anywhere she wanted. We have a great story about our trip to Ensenada together a few years back...can you say "Amazing Race" triple the effect of what you would see on tv!?!
One of the magazines I purchased was called "Girlfriend Getaways!' I have found my new magazine! I have many girlfriends who love "weekend" getaways and I have a wonderful husband who supports this, so...after hearing Doug Fields message on slowing down, I feel that means take some time to enjoy the "getaways!"
Time to start packing......

Spring...Time only one thing is mandatory...
IT THE FIRST SPRING PEDICURE! I look forward to this day all winter! I wait and wear all my closed toe shoes, hoping to pull out the cute sandals and flip flops soon! I know they are crying out..."Wear me!" from the deepest part of my closet.
SO, today was the day! Here is how "Pedicure Heaven" goes...
"What you want today?"
"Pedicure only"
"You want Spa Chair?"
While I want to scream "DUH" I hold back and politely say..."Yes!"
"Ok 5 minutes"
"Pick your color, which I casually do, I am more worried about finding the most current magazines while I sit in "the chair!" I find the color, it's pink...probably would not have been my first choice but again...loving magazines I am more worried about finding the "perfect" one!
Finally I am sitting in the massage chair, warm water running on my feet and legs, and a wonderful lady primping and tugging at my feet and toes, magazine on my lap...this is heaven!
I read and flip through a magazine I really don't recommend...Jane (at least not this "current" copy).
I am so content, I can sit here ALL day.
"You want flower?"
"No thanks"
"Your daughters want flowers?"
"No thank you" while glancing over to see Kelly, the 7 year old getting flowers painted on her fingers.
I don't care, I am getting a back massage, feet and leg massage and reading a magazine! The lady doing Kelly's fingers is thinking "how can I tack on another $8 without her knowing?" Again, I truly don't care as long as this afternoon never ends.
Then the depression hits...I see the pink nail polish going on...this means the end is near. I swear a tear fell!
I have so much to look forward to in 2 weeks! This time the color will be a better choice!

Great week for friends!
So this week has been a great week of friends! It started with Tuesday, the best lunch ever with my best friend in the whole world...Lisa! I hate that we forget how much we miss each other and need each other. We talked for almost 3 hours straight and still had so much to say when we drove away! She is amazing and wonderful and I miss her TONS! You would think we live at separate ends of the world...WE DON'T...we just don't make the time...shame on us!
On the way home from lunch one of my favorite guy friends called just to say "hey" and tell me that he missed my face...I miss his too! Time for us to have Tino over for dinner! 26 years of friendship and we still start conversations from where we left off...(watch for journal entry about Tino someday...you will love him too)!
Last night we had a great fellowship night with some amazing young people! These people make us feel young, and they all are so amazing in this life. I love this night, I love that my kids get to see such great kids fellowshipping and having fun.
Then today, I went and spent time at the hospital with a really close friend, although in pain and not feeling great..she was wonderful to visit with. I love my friend and she could use your prayers right now just for healing! We cried when we got there, cried when we left, and thanked God for the healing he had done and the friendships that we have grown!
Then I took my friend Joy out to lunch before dropping her off at the airport. Great conversation and great connections. Joy is young (yes, I am OLD enough to be her mother) but I love listening to her talk about what God is doing in her life and where she wants to go next with her ministry!
It's been a fun week, not over but fun so far! Each day helped remind me that I love people and I love people whose life I have touched and whose lives have touched mine! What does next week have...can't wait to find out!?!!?

The dreaded company party
So, it's that time again...the hunt for the Trader Joe's Party Dress. Oh, how I don't like this time of year. Is it the right dress, does it fit right, does it look right, do I spend THAT much for one night? Then it's off to find the right shoes, jewelery, purse, oh the list goes on! Then it comes the night of the party, all new questions, do I look ok, does it fit right, who has the same dress, should I have worn black, should have have worn a dressier dress, oh the list goes on and on....for what?A night to make my husband proud! Yes, my husband loves his company, he loves this night to "shop talk," he loves this night to see old faces and celebrate new promotions, to talk about products that no one else would spend 2 seconds talking about! This night makes me proud of my husband! I love that he has passion for the company he has managed for so many years, I love that he stands proudly when they announce the people he promotes from within, I love that he has friends that love him because he loves the company. I want to stand proudly by him and let him talk. We work for such different organizations but he spends the whole year supporting me and my job, spending his days off with me at work, serving, ministering, laughing, having fun and I give him this one night to stand by his side and watching him be proud. So, back to the shallow question of the night....which dress, shoes, jewelery, purse, etc? Which one is going to be perfect....HELP! Did I mention that the party is at the wonderful St. Regis Hotel! Oh boy....will I look right for the location, just another question!!!!!

Double Rainbow
Wishing this morning's alarm would just hold off another couple of hours because I just wanted to sleep a little longer.... my cell phone goes off! Ugh...don't people realize it's Monday and I just worked 15 long hours yesterday! Rolling over I grab the phone remembering that Holly gets up at "OH DARK THIRTY" and is already off to school and probably needs money or something like that...I read the text!
"Hey mom, there is a double rainbow outside and I LOVE YOU!"
Wow, ready to start the day! Thank you God for reminding me to get up and see your day and THANK YOU HOLLY for reminding me to get up and love you, dad, Matt, and Kelly!
OH by the way...I will celebrate my daughters love for her mommy at H & M this afternoon, she has been dying to go since we got home from New York and this one is only 7 minutes (YES, I COUNTED THEM) from our house! Updates on our "buys" coming later.....

Stupid Bake Parkway, stupid bridge!
Those who know me, know how afraid of heights and roller coaster rides I am! I have avoided the stupid Bake Parkway bridge going south on the 5 freeway because it is just TOO high! Call me nuts, but when I cross this bridge my stomach drops and I feel like I can't get over it fast enough!
Tonight my daughter needed to be picked up in Irvine at 10pm from a party. Yes, being the good mom, I went out and got her. She talked non-stop about this amazing party and BOYS...of course. I being the good mom and listening intently didn't pay attention when I exited the freeway at Bake Parkway, in the dark! I started on the bridge and wished with all my might that I would have stayed on the freeway and exited at Lake Forest! The bridge ride seemed long even though it was about a 1 minute drive!
I know...call me crazy but don't ask me to climb even a 3 step ladder! I hate heights....period!

Do I do this...publically?
I have had a private journal online for years. I use different online sources to journal because I love to write. My life is funny, serious, busy and full of God so I don't think there will be much to share with the public but I thought it might be fun for Holly (my daughter) and I to share this one and post funny junk in our crazy lives. We work together so our rides to and from work, to and from school and too and from her busy high school life is full of stories both funny and serious (right now mostly about BOYS)!
I will start out by telling my side of the life of living with the crazy teenagers and one grade
schooler, she is the funniest of all! Holly will add stuff and I am sure, there will be lots to find hilarious!
Holly is a great teen, difficult because she thinks she knows more than we do (and someday we will probably tell her, she does...not today), but she is a blast and so amazingly in love with God that she lights up the God candle of this house. She is crazy into the whole "teen thing" but has the mind of an adult when you get to know her deeply. She loves older people because they challenge her conversations, her need to "go deep" with Godly people, and her older sense of humor.
Matt is fourteen, enough said...ha ha! Really truly he is difficult and challenging, BUT more than that this is a man with a bigger servants heart than any man I know, besides his father! He loves to help, work and loves to spend his time at
Saddleback doing for anyone who needs ANYTHING done. He loves to fight with his 7 year old sister just to get her going but loves to look up to his older sister and strives to be part of her life because he adores her.
Kelly is the funniest, most outgoing, loving little girl! She wants to love on everyone who crosses her path. She loves to just be happy and make people happy. She says the funniest things and when the mood is "south" she can make a smile out of a bad day! We are waiting to find out what great things God has for her life since he surprised us with her we know that God has a great plan for her!
So, that is our kids. If you want to get to know my husband and cross the path of
Saddleback Church, you are invited to take a "tram" ride from the "pit" parking lot to the "big church." He will make you laugh your head off, feel connected and get to know you in that short 6 minute ride. Look for "DAVID!"
Next post...well, hopefully something great happens today...BTW...Beach Cafe opens TODAY!
I am sure there will be hilarity in that...."hey, do we wash the plastic lids too?"
